Top Quality Citrine

Citrine is classified as a semi precious stone. A yellow variety of quartz, citrine has an attractive luster and excellent clarity. Amongst the yellow colored gemstones, citrine is the most desired due to its color, quality, and price.

The name Citrine is derived from French word ‘Citron’ which stands for lemon. Citrine has energies of fortune and luck. The only difference between amethyst and citrine is the oxidation state of iron impurities present in the quartz. As a result, citrine is an inexpensive and relatively affordable gemstone.

Color is the most important factor for citrine. It has a wide color range from lemon yellow to reddish brown. In addition, a yellow quartz is very rare in nature. Typically, the deeper colored stones are more valued than the lighter tones, including those with reddish tints.

The most common cuts for citrine are oval, round and rectangular cuts. In addition, the best quality citrine is “clean” and free of visible inclusions of any kind. As a result, any quartz colored by inclusions cannot be called a citrine.

There are three standards that Citrine are graded:

Natural AAA are the top 10% of natural citrines available. They have an orange amber color, are eye-clean and of brilliant-cut.

Natural AA are the top 20%-30% of natural citrines available. They have a golden-yellow color with a reddish tint and are moderately to slightly included.

Natural A are the top 50%-75% of natural citrines available. These are pale gold in color, smoky and are heavily to moderately included.

Citrine is known as the November Birthstone!
